Buttercrumble Speaks at Process Events

Last month, we had the pleasure of speaking at Process Events in Leeds. It was an evening of giggles and real-life stories. We had an amazing time!

The event was hosted at The Attic on Sheaf Street, and invited creatives to open up about the process behind their work. The creative industries often celebrate finished outcomes, so it was refreshing to be in a room where the focus was on how we get through the messy middle!

We were invited to speak alongside two brilliant creatives: Will Kirk, founder of Nighthawk Studio, and Gina Buckle, founder of Hoot Copy. Both shared thoughtful insights into building creative careers, from navigating freelancing to finding an authentic brand voice.

For our talk, we shared a session called “What They Didn’t Teach You at Design School”. We spoke about the realities of building a creative studio. Don’t get us wrong — we loved our time at design school, and it equipped us with incredible creative skills. Yet, there are so many parts of running a creative practice that you only learn through experience. We spoke about:

  • Learning how to communicate the value of creative work

  • Building confidence and networking

  • Navigating rejection and uncertainty

  • Creating a sustainable creative career, not just beautiful work

Events like this remind us how important it is for us to come together and share the highlights AND the learning curves. It’s tough out there!

What we loved most about the evening was the atmosphere. The Attic was filled with designers, writers, freelancers and founders all at different stages of their careers. The room was buzzing, and it took us a while to calm down afterwards.

The conversations that followed the presentations were just as valuable. We had some lovely chats with people about their own journeys, ideas and ambitions, which is always the best part of events like these.

A big thank you

A huge thank you to the team at Process Events for inviting us to speak and for creating such a welcoming space for the creative community in Leeds.

Also, to everyone who came along and shared the evening with us — thank you for making it such a thoughtful and inspiring event.
