As two young women (in our 20s) raised in a low socio-economic area, with no business experience, we had no expectations to “make it” in the creative industries. We hope our story shares a down-to-earth, real perspective of starting a business (from scratch) with no frills, bells or whistles.

The Great British Entrepreneur Awards (founded in 2013) acknowledges stories like our own, and the hard work of entrepreneurs and businesses in the United Kingdom. The Awards have celebrated some outstanding entrepreneurs who have gone on to become household names. Previous winners include Tangle Teezer, The LAD Bible, Clearscore and The Cambridge Satchel Company.

“This good news has uplifted spirits in the studio during this turbulent period. Over the last few months, many projects have been on hiatus. It has been hard to see friends within the business community struggling too. Yet, the studio has always practised an ethos of making others smile, through design. We must stay true to these values and celebrate our achievements”. — Abigail Baldwin, Co-founder of Buttercrumble

“Women are still in the minority when we consider leadership roles within the creative industries. Therefore, Buttercrumble are advocates for making creative careers accessible and inclusive to all. This is why we’re proud to be considered for a national award, recognising the creative industries”. — Chloe Baldwin, Co-founder of Buttercrumble

We are keeping our fingers crossed for a positive result and we are thankful to the wonderful organisations we partner with. The pandemic may have forced us to slow down but it’s gifted us time to reflect on our journey.

This year, with safety in mind, the regional heats ceremony will be hosted online on September 23rd 2020.
