Pandemic Home-working Enables Studio Expansion in London

Despite COVID-19 and its persistent setbacks, the last 12-months have been the most successful yet for Buttercrumble. We have strengthened international links, restructured our team and we’re now expanding with a new satellite office in London.

COVID-19 has “crumbled” tribal barriers. Our public spaces and offices may have closed, but the virtual doors swung widely open! This is evident from the two additional US clients we have partnered with during the pandemic. Thanks to remote working, we are achieving our ambitions of growing nationally and worldwide.

Director, Abigail Baldwin, explains “to increase our appeal to the international market, we have adopted a satellite base in London — the epicentre of global design. This hybrid of remote and office working allows us to deliver more value and creativity to our clients. We can be more flexible and soak up influences from a range of locations, which makes for exciting and dynamic work”.

This new address will be at ecological co-working destination, x+why, in the creative melting-pot of Whitechapel.

It was important for us to be connected to a space with social consciousness and surrounded by a hive of activity.

This growth follows the selection of Buttercrumble’s work as part of London Design Biennale’s Design in an Age of Crisis exhibition, which saw our submission selected and displayed at Somerset House. The House is also home to Saturday Club Trust who supported our founders’ early creative education, and consequently, a charity close to Buttercrumble’s heart.

For us, this transition has arrived at a perfect time, as we're delighted to have partnered with several new clients in the London area. Stratford Original BID is partnering with Buttercrumble deliver positive and comforting communication to the London town’s community to nurture wellbeing. The creative campaign will present Stratford as a welcoming place to be.

Recently, we partnered with 2-3 Degrees to deliver live illustrations, documenting their community focussed event in a dynamic and creative way, you can read more about it here. We’re also set to carry out a similar visual note-taking project for Grosvenor later this month.
