Familiarity breeds indifference. If you want to excite your audience, you need to continuously refresh your offering. This can be as simple as updating your colour palettes each season.

Colour trends are a great starting point for inspiration. They set exciting foundations and can influence your long-term design strategies.

We are facing a global polycrisis with compounding effects. Audiences are seeking a sense of calming security while yearning for new possibilities. The imagination thrives during challenging times and colours need to reflect the wonderment of future innovations.

Spring/Summer: What do the colours mean?

Leading forecaster, WGSN, describes how fruity brights and nature-inspired pastels will reassure your audience. The pastels evoke a sense of calm and tranquillity and are balanced by the energetic brights. The palette sparks excitement, a sense of hope, and encourages the need to reignite creativity and imagination (2022).

Furthermore, other forecasters such as Fashion Snoop reported on how consumers are becoming more self-aware as they challenge society's views on gender norms. We have started thinking outside the set binaries and adapting to new experiences whilst nurturing the idea of individuality (Fashion Snoop, 2023). WGSN Global Colour Forecast mentions how these trans-seasonal shades encourage the idea of self-expression as we empower a new generation to challenge the rules on gendered dressing (2022).

Autumn/Winter: What do the colours mean?

In the Global Colour Forecast for AW 24/25, WGSN details how the introduction of cool mid tones for AW24 focuses on the increasing interest in sustainability and longevity. The deeper shades coexist with the rise of consumers becoming more and more intrigued with the idea of the unknown (2022).

The return of tinted darks is inspired by technological advancements such as developments in space travel and the metaverse. This has sparked curiosity amongst the masses which has influenced the deep tones we are beginning to see come through for AW24 (WGSN, 2022). This demonstrates how innovation has inspired the next wave of colour trends through the use of secure and seasonless colours (Fashion Snoop, 2023).

The need for stability inspires the core colour palettes for AW24/SS25. During these turbulent times, consumers want to feel safe and secure. Moving away from the vibrancy of AW23 core palette to tranquil and peaceful cool tones.

Sustainability is a major influence for SS25. We are seeing a shift from the delicate and feminine colour palette of SS24 to becoming inclusive and creating a comfortable and inclusive future for consumers in 2025.
